Realmgate is a free browser strategy game at playrealmgate.com. This page explains what we collect when you play, why, where it is kept, and how to have it deleted. There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
- If you play as a guest: no personal details. You get a random account ID, and your game lives under it.
- If you sign in with Google: Google shares your email address, name and profile picture with our sign-in service. The game uses your email address to identify your account. It does not show your name or picture to anyone.
- If you made an account with an email address: your email address. Your password is held only by our sign-in service, in hashed form; the game never sees it.
- Your game: your city, armies, resources, progress, battle reports, and the chat messages and letters you send to other players.
- Technical data: your IP address and the requests your browser makes, recorded in server logs for security and to fix problems.
Why we use it
Only to run the game: to create and secure your account, sign you back in, keep your realm saved, show your realm to other players where the game requires it, deliver messages between players, and protect the game from abuse. We rely on providing the service you asked for, and on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure.
What other players see
Other players see your ruler name, your city on the map, your alliance, your rankings, and messages you send them. A new guest realm is named "Wanderer" plus a short code. Accounts made with an email address start with the part of the address before the @. You can change your ruler name in the game. Other players never see your email address.
Where it is stored
- Supabase runs our sign-in service and database, in its Central EU (Frankfurt) region.
- Hetzner hosts our game server in Germany, along with its logs and nightly database backups.
- Google handles the sign-in itself if you choose "Continue with Google", under Google's privacy policy.
These providers process the data only to provide their services to us.
In your browser
We store one sign-in token in your browser so you return to your realm without signing in again, plus your game settings such as sound and interface size. For a guest, the token is the only way back to the realm, so clearing your browser data loses a guest realm. We use no cookies for tracking.
How long we keep it
- Your account and game, for as long as you play. Guest realms that are abandoned may be removed after a period without play.
- Letters between players, up to 30 days.
- Database backups, 14 days.
- Server logs, for a short period, after which they are deleted automatically.
Deleting your data
Email privacy@playrealmgate.com from the address on your account, or include your Player ID (shown in Settings in the game), and ask for your account to be deleted. We will delete your account and your realm within 30 days. Copies in backups are removed as those backups expire. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, at the same address.
If you are in the UK or the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Realmgate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
